Delight in the holiday sprit with the lighting of Breckenridge. This old-fashioned celebration will fill your heart as locals and visitors gather together to celebrate the incredible winter wonderland of Breckenridge and embark on a magical holiday season.

The Lighting of Breckenridge, December 7, 2013

The Lighting of Breckenridge kicks off the season when Santa meets holiday revelers in a horse-drawn carriage. Sip steaming cocoa, snack on cookies and join carolers in song for a procession along Main Street. Vibrant ornaments and twinkling lights come alive with the lighting of the plaza and town tree.

Join us as 100’s of holiday enthusiasts of all ages, dressed in festive costumes, race down historic Main Street, Breckenridge. We encourage those who can withstand the thin mountain air to start at the front of the pack, as the top finishers will be awarded Ullr helmets and prize packages. Not a runner? Walk, jog or skip through the 6-block course. You can even join your kids in the Race of the Reindeer, where all kids will be given reindeer antlers. 1:45 p.m.—3:45 p.m. – Make and Take family art project at the Fuqua in the Arts District. Free to kids!

2:30 p.m. — 6:30 p.m. – Holiday Carols by the “Jingle Singers” *In Victorian costumes, singing classics and a fun modern spin on old favorites

3:30 p.m – Watch the Holiday Dance Performance by Alpine Dance Academy in the Blue River Plaza on Main St.

4:15 p.m. – Race of the Santas/Race of the Reindeer starts on Main St. by the Blue River Plaza. Registration and bib pick-up at the Riverwalk Center

4:30 p.m. – Free hot cocoa and cookies in the Red, White, and Blue Fire House at 316 North Main Street

5:00 p.m. – Santa arrives in front of Red, White and Blue Fire house (via horse-drawn
carriage) to lead a procession including the Bernese Mountain Dog Parade to
the Blue River Plaza for the lighting of the Town Tree

5:20 p.m. – Tree lighting and caroling in the Blue River Plaza

5:30 p.m.—7:00 p.m. – Visits with Santa at the Barney Ford Museum, 111 E. Washington Ave. Let the little ones share their Holiday wishes with Santa and take a photo too!
