The Dew Tour Returns To Breckenridge

The 10th Anniversary Dew Tour!

This December 11th – 14th, the Dew Tour 2014 returns to Breckenridge Ski Resort to Dew Tour Logocelebrate its 10th anniversary with the Mountain Championships! This will be the seventh straight year this tour has come to Breck for four days of freeski and snowboard competition.

The event features world-renowned skiers and snowboarders, and serves as the culmination of the 2014 competition season. For spectators and visitors to the Breckenridge area, vacation rental properties provide great access to the excitement surrounding the nationally televised event, with live music concerts, athlete meet and greets (including an A-list of Olympians), games, giveaways, and the interactive Dew Tour Experience.

This is one of Breckenridge’s biggest events of the year, so vacation rental lodging will fill up fast! Lighting of Breckenridge & Race of Santas 2014

Here in Breckenridge, the first weekend in December brings a transformation, turning downtown into a glistening holiday panorama. Along with a bustling shopping scene and ever-popular outdoor winter activities, a pair of special Breckenridge holiday events will highlight the season.

Animated Santa Running

On December 6th, 2014 participate in the Race of the Santas, an event where hundreds of holiday enthusiasts of all ages dress as Santa Claus, racing down historic Main Street. $15 and your own suit will get you in, or $45 will include a Santa Suit that you keep! Running isn’t necessary; walking or prancing through the 6-block course is more than welcome. Children can join, with complimentary reindeer antlers. The top three male and female finishers of this fun run will be awarded Ullr Helmets, while everyone will be eligible for prize drawings. All proceeds benefit the local charity, Adopt An Angel, so come out and show your support!

That night, the Lighting of Breckenridge begins. Here, Santa greets holiday celebrators from his horse-drawn carriage while a parade of revelers will sing songs and ring in the holiday season with lights throughout Main Street. Local businesses will participate for the Breckenridge Arts Experience. This celebration kicks off a local holiday season leading to an extravagant New Year’s Eve celebrations, including live music, bar parties, all followed by a torchlight parade down the slopes of Breckenridge Ski Resort. Breckenridge resort has announced its need to postpone Opening Day on the ski slopes, which was scheduled for today. The resort has indicated it will have a new date selected next week. We are pleased to announce that Breckenridge Ski Area is opening for the 2014/15 Winter
Ski Season on Friday, November 7, 2014.  Get your lift tickets or season passes early for the guaranteed lowest price. The Gondola Season Pass office is open Thursday through Monday, from 10am to 4pm, for all lift ticket and season pass sales.

In operation since 1961, Breckenridge stands apart from Colorado’s legendary ski country in a big way. Its peaks boast over 25 feet of snowfall yearly, and with 34 lifts crossing a vertical rise of 3,398 feet, the mountain can have you gliding through the powder in no time. From the top of the Imperial Lift, many of the 14,000-foot peaks in the heart of the Rockies are visible, including Mt. Massive, Mountain of the Holy Cross, and even Pike’s Peak in the distance. The towering peaks surrounding Breckenridge ensure a constant supply of fresh snow at the ski resort.

Breckenridge covers a total ski terrain area of 2,908 acres, crisscrossed by 187 varied trails. To ensure optimal enjoyment, the expert weather observing ski patrol measures snowfall each morning before 5 am. The specific process for measuring snowfall aims to give you the most accurate snow report possible. You can check snowfall conditions directly, with the snow stake located in the back bowls on Peak 8, near the bottom of 6 Chair. You can also watch a 24-hour time-lapse camera recording snowfall online. Before you head out for the day you can check out everything you would ever want to know about the snow!

Enjoying Fall Colors Near Breckenridge

The Breckenridge, Colorado area offers several options for beautiful fall color sightseeing for all modes of transportation – by car, on foot, by bicycle, or even on horseback. Whatever your preferred method of travel, Breckenridge provides a host of ways to experience the gorgeous colors of the changing aspen forests! Here are two of our favorites:

Boreas Pass

Boreas Pass Road, between Como and Breckenridge, is a wonderful sightseeing route for both cars and bicycles. Rising up to over 11,400 feet, the road provides views down into the Town of Breckenridge and throughout the surrounding mountains. Trails also parallel the upper portion of the road for scenic bike riding. Boreas Pass Road is reachable by US Highway 285 in Park County, and by Colorado Highway 9 on the south side of Breckenridge.

French Gulch TrailsBreckenridge Fall Colors

Best suited for bike riding or hiking, this network of trails winds through old mining country just two miles east of town. Not only do these trails provide beautiful nature walks through the changing aspen forest, it’s also a peek into the history of the mining industry that gave birth to Breckenridge. The trails can be accessed by way of the B&B Mines Trailhead, about a mile uphill from the intersection of Wellington and French Gulch Road.
