We love Breckenridge, especially in the winter. And since all of us at Great Western Lodging live and work in Breck, love to ski, and know the area so well, we wanted to share with you our idea of the perfect winter day. This includes awesome winter activities, great places to dine in Breckenridge, and other ideas so you can have the perfect winter day in Breckenridge.
Start the day
Rise and shine! And since this is our official perfect day in Breckenridge, the day wouldn’t start unless there was fresh snow on the mountain to ski/ride. Enjoy your morning sipping coffee and cooking breakfast from your Breckenridge vacation rental while reading the ski report. All of our vacation rentals are equipped with kitchens, and free WiFi to provide an at-home feel. Stock up on groceries at Breckenridge Market located downtown, or City Market which is located about a 5 to 10 minute walk from our Main Street office location. Don’t feel like cooking? We recommend running downtown to Clint’s Bakery for a breakfast sandwich or pastry.
After fueling up, hit the slopes! Our perfect day starts by enjoying deep pow runs on Peak 9 and 10 by riding up Quicksilver and Falcon Super Chair Lifts. For those closer to Peak 8 or downtown, catch the Gondola to the base of Peak 8, take Colorado Chair to 6 chair for above timberline laps. Feeling warmed up? Take 6 Chair to the top and catch Imperial Lift for bowl riding. This is all more intermediate to advanced terrain and is a great way to start your day.
Nothing says the perfect winter day like stopping for a break at Vista Haus at the top of Colorado Chair. Enjoy a Bloody Mary, hot chocolate, or some grub. Or, if you are staying at one of our Breckenridge ski-in/ski-out rentals, conveniently ski to your rental for a quick lunch or maybe even a nap.
Take a couple more laps after the midday break to fully take advantage of the snow. Once your legs start to feel like Jello, that means time for after skiing drinks. We like to take a full, long run on Lower 4 O’clock, which ends at the South Gondola lot near downtown. From there, take a quick walk to Apres Libations or Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU), both on Main Street. RMU is the perfect spot for skiers if you want to get your skis tuned while enjoy a frosty beverage. Or if you need a sweet treat, head to Apres and stop by Mary’s Mountain Cookies on the way to enjoy a delicious, warm, homemade cookie while you sip on libations at the pub next door, Apres. While downtown, explore the cute boutique shops that Breckenridge has to offer.
Soaking in a hot tub on a cold winter day is a perfect way to transition from day to night. Head back to your vacation rental, decompress from a day of skiing, and chill while checking out the stunning Breck views. Breckenridge offers incredible restaurants and different types of cuisine for all – our perfect winter day means going out to dinner and enjoying a delicious meal. We recommend Giampetro's for those who love Italian food or Mi Casa for those craving a margarita. For after dinner drinks check out Modis for delicious craft cocktails, or for dessert, go to Crepes A La Cart on Main Street.
