1. OPEN TERRAIN

By the month of February, snowfall has usually been consistent throughout the season and leaves Colorado mountains – and Breckenridge Ski Resort, with fully open terrain, lifts and runs. This is most intriguing as travelers will have the opportunity to avoid crowds and explore more of the mountain each day. Fully open terrain gives skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to choose their favorite runs without limitation in order to progress in their skills.

2. AMAZING SNOW

February skiing has the BEST winter conditions. Early-season snow can be marginal leaving mountain terrain subpar. But, by February, the snow depth is at its deepest – especially at peaks. You won’t run into tree stumps, rocks or other debris as it’s packed deep under the surface. Backcountry and back bowl skiing are especially amazing in February with loads of fresh powder to ride. And the best part? The snow is still coming down!

3. MID-SEASON CONFIDENCE

At this point in the season, it’s likely that you’ve been on the snow a few times and had enough practice to re-memorize those muscle movements. You’re probably in the most ideal shape for your ability level at this point and can ski or snowboard with more confidence. It’s the perfect time to progress in your ability levels and hit the slopes more aggresively.

4. WARMER TEMPS

Although February doesn’t quite fall into the Spring Skiing category, it is when temperatures in Colorado begin to warm up. After the colder months, February skiing is very appealing to out-of-staters who may not be used to freezing Winters. Ditch the heavy base layers and enjoy blue bird days in the Colorado sun as you hit the slopes. It’s your best chance for decent weather if you’re looking to avoid the March crowds.

5. NO CROWDS

December through January, and March bring in a lot of visitors for the holidays. For most of the month, February has a lower volume of guests on the mountain, generally feeling less crowded. Skiers and riders will experience shorter lift lines and have a good chance of hitting fresh powder runs. February still has one holiday – President’s Day. We recommend booking lodging for that weekend ahead of time.
