From the crisp mountain breeze, glowing aspens and sunny skies, fall is one of the most spectacular times to visit Breckenridge. Whether you escaped the city for a weekend getaway to the mountains or your first time visiting, it’s one of our favorite times of the year and we want to help you enjoy it as well!

Can’t miss activities and events

It would be nearly impossible to list all the great things going on around Breckenridge during the fall but here are some of the favorites that anyone visiting should not miss out on.

Boreas Pass

One of the most popular fall foliage viewing routes in Colorado, Boreas Pass is simply beautiful. Aspen trees line the beginning route of this old wagon wheel dirt road that connects Breckenridge and Como, creating a tunnel like effect that will have you feeling like you are on the road to Narnia. The prime times for viewing are the 3rd and 4th week of September.

How to get there: From Breckenridge, head south on either Main St. or Hwy 9. At the intersection of Hwy 9 and Boreas Pass Road (Conoco gas station on SW corner) take a left (east). Head roughly 3.5 miles on Boreas Pass rd. until the paved road turns into a dirt road. This dirt path is the road you are looking for.

French Gulch trails

An area once dominated by mining operations, French Gulch is home to some of the best trailsBreckenridge has to offer. Explore some of the areas oldest settlements such as the Sallie Barber Mine while enjoying breath taking views of the county. These trails are perfect for biking or hiking.

How to get there: From Highway 9 in north Breckenridge, take Huron Road (CR 450) east and bear right onto Reiling Road. Continue on Reiling Road through the subdivision. Turn left onto French Gulch Road at the stop sign (please drive slowly and watch for playing children). Follow French Gulch Road for 2.6 miles to the clearly marked French Gulch Road Trailhead and parking area on your right.
